Home is the Hero

Rory McIlroy landed in Belfast today for what is a triumphant but brief homecoming.

McIlroy touched down in a private jet at Belfast City "George Best" airport.

Under an umbrella he carried his four-year-old daughter Poppy a few steps from the plane to a waiting car.

He then was driven to Holywood in County Down and to his parents Gerry and Rosie.

Rory's progress was tracked by fans on flight track online sites during the week. After his Masters triumph Sunday he flew from Palm Beach in Florida to Farnborough Airport outside London, and from there to Belfast.

McIlroy is expected to fly back westward before too long as he is lined up to defend his Zurich Classic title - held together with Shane Lowry - in New Orleans next week.
