GOAL, the Irish international aid agency, is facing an uphill challenge in the form of funding cuts imposed by the U.S. agency USAID.
But the organization, founded by Irish journalist John O'Shea and long associated with Irish and international sports stars, isn't running away from its relief work in some of the poorest parts of the world.
On the contrary.
And with this being the case GOAL is forging ahead with plans for a second "Great Ethiopia Run Challenge" in that country's capital, Addis Ababa, later this year.
And by way of a curtain raiser GOAL will be announcing details of the run at a gathering set for Wednesday, April 23 at the New York Athletic Club in Manhattan.
The event will feature Irish middle distance running legend Eamonn Coghlan, who will be on hand in the the club's Hal of Fame Room, and a video link with Ethiopian running legend Haile Gebrselassie.
