McGuinness Walk Marks Four

The U.S. Martin McGuinness Peace Foundation held its 4th annual Chieftain’s Walk on Sunday, September 15 at the Hudson River Park Trust in Manhattan.

There were over a hundred participants for this year’s walk which always commences at the Irish Hunger Memorial on Vesey street after which the walk proceeds up the Hudson River Park Trust Greenway, and by the Hudson River.

This year participants wore tee shirts to commemorate the Walk and dubbed it the “Walk to Reunification.” People had registered for the walk over the last two months and they came from all over the country including, New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Tennessee, Kentucky, Texas, California, as well as representatives from Ireland.

The Walk is the same day as the Chieftain’s Walk in Derry every year.

The Walk, said a release, "commemorates the legacy of Martin McGuinness who passed away in 2017. Martin was the Chief architect of the Good Friday Agreement and the First Deputy Minister at Stormont. The Martin McGuinness Peace Foundation runs the Chieftain’s Walk in September every year and an annual Martin McGuinness Peace Foundation dinner. The next dinner will be in the Spring of 2025."
