A Dubliner who has scaled the heights of academia in the U.S. was singled out for praise by Belfast Lord Mayor Micky Murray at last week's New York-New Belfast conference.
Alan Kelly, Senior VP at Hofstra University, was recognized by Mayor Murray for his "tireless service to the higher education sector in the New York region and his unwavering commitment to widening access to tertiary education for all".
A proud Dub who has made Long Island his home, Alan’s exemplary leadership over many years has boosted charities and social enterprises with deep links to Ireland and to Irish America.
At the Long Island university, Kelly is responsible for all aspects of University fundraising and development, leadership recruitment and engagement, prospect research and cultivation and fundraising events. Prior to joining Hofstra, Mr. Kelly was employed by Community Counseling Service (CCS), fundraising consultants, since 1997, serving most recently as operational vice president of CCS. In the course of his career, Mr. Kelly has provided professional counsel to dozens of clients in the areas of higher education, and religious and health organizations, raising more than $850 million.
Alan came to the United states in 1992 and is a graduate of both the University of Scranton and Hofstra. He currently resides in Lynbrook, NY with his wife Susan and their four daughters.
