Ballina, County Mayo native Maggie Timoney will lead the 2024 New York St. Patrick's Day Parade up Fifth Avenue.
The St. Patrick’s Day Parade, Inc. Board of Directors announced its choice of grand marshal to head the parade which will be on Saturday, March 16. The parade does not take place if St. Patrick's Day falls on a Sunday.
According to a release, Timoney is the first female President & CEO of HEINEKEN USA based in White Plains, New York and an alumnus of Iona University in New Rochelle where she played basketball and earned two degrees.
"Throughout her career, she has blazed a trail in the traditionally male-dominated beer industry, and today, she is the first woman to serve as chief executive of a major beer company in the United States, the release stated.
Sean Lane, Chairman of the Parade Board of Directors, said: “Maggie Timoney embodies the American dream and represents what can be achieved with determination and hard work. We are delighted she has been selected Grand Marshal of the 2024 Parade.
"She, like so many hard-working Irish immigrants before her, emigrated from Ireland in search of a brighter future and we will be proud to march behind her as she leads the Irish American community up Fifth Avenue in the greatest Parade in the world."
“We as a community are proud of her, she is an outstanding leader in her chosen field and we know her selection as Grand Marshal will be popular within Irish America and Ireland," said Hilary Beirne CAO of the parade.
