Offaly’s Shane Lowry will be allowed to hold onto the famous Clara Jug for another 12 months as this year’s British Open has been cancelled The R&A has taken the unprecedented non-wartime step of calling off this year’s Open Championship. The 149th edition of golf oldest major, due to be held at Royal St George’s in Kent from July 16, will instead take place at the same venue, near Sandwich, in 2021. That means the 150th anniversary 2022 championship will take place at the Old Course in St. Andrews, Scotland.This will mark the first time since 1945 there has been no open in a calendar year. Lowry told golf fans via a BBC video that the trophy was "in safe hands."
And J.P. McManus has had to cancel his charity fundraising Pro-Am set for this summer at Adare Manor. The star-studded tournament, which was a complete sell-out, had lined up big names like Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, Phil Mickelson, Dustin Jackson, Brooks Kopeka, Jon Rahm, and Lowry for the July 6 and 7 event at the County Limerick venue with proceeds benefitting charitable organizations in the Mid-West. The McManus Pro-Am will now be staged at Adare Manor on July 5 and 6, 2021.
