Holding mighty Italy to a 1-1 tie at the 2010 World Cup is arguably New Zealand soccer's biggest moment. Last night's friendly game against an experimental Republic of Ireland XI at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin was never going to the occasion for similar heroics. The visitors did, however, open the scoring with a good goal by Callum McCowatt on 30 minutes. The home side responded with goals by Derrick Williams (45'), Sean Maguire (52') and Callum Robinson (75'). The last named, seen here scoring last night, is expected to be involved in Monday's must-win 2020 European Championships game against Denmark at same venue.
