Conlan's debut

Newly-minted boxing pro Michael Conlan made his American public debut at a press conference at Madison Square Garden last week to promote his fight there on St. Patrick’s Day. The 25-year-old's opponent for his first pro fight has not been named. The Belfast man is the only Irish male boxer to be both a world amateur champion (at bantamweight) and an Olympic medalist (Bronze, 2012 London). He also has European gold and silver as well as a Commonwealth gold. For full boxing coverage this week from Jay Mwamba about Conlan and Carl Frampton, go to the Irish Echo print/digital editions.
