O'Connor is hero as Rocks in final

Paddy McCarry's Shamrock Over-30s return to Randalls Island this Sunday for the title decider with New York Greek-American/Atlas after nicking a 3-2 win there over New York Dinamo at the weekend on Brian O'Connor's late strike.

A draw against the second place Greeks [8-5-1, 25] will see leaders Shamrock [9-4-1, 28] crowned Div. One [West] champions. Kick off is 8 am on

Field 75.

The Rocks set this up with the victory over Dinamo, who led through Peterson Lopez [35th] and Fabricio Tapia [55th] after trailing to a Paddy Geraghty effort [25th].

Skipper Steve Doyle leveled [70th] before Burim "Benny" Ljuta jinked past a couple of defenders and crossed for O'Connor to win it [85th].

The result earned Shamrock a place in the Div. One playoffs contested by the two top teams in East and West.

ROCKED

The Shamrock firsts crashed 4-1 to Hoboken FC in a Division Two fixture on Roosevelt Island. This after, the Rocks' s second XI prevailed 2-0 on John Fortney's brace.

HUNTING GAME

Conor Hunter's penalty [60th] at Tibbetts Brook Park salvaged a vital 1-1 draw for CSL title contenders Lansdowne Bhoys against Barnstonworth Rovers that maintained an Irish grip on first place in the East. Andy Abramovits [20th] had shot Rovers ahead.

Lansdowne [6-3-6, 24] were joined in first place by United FC who trounced Clarkstown 9-3. The Bhoys could seal a playoff spot by beating New York Albanians in their penultimate fixture at Tibbetts Brook this Sunday [kick off 11am, reserves at 9 am] with United looming in their last game.

FLYING FLYNN

Brendan Flynn [two] was the Lansdowne hero in the seconds' 3-3 tie with Barnstonworth 'B.' Mike Fernandez also scored.

NELLY TREY

In Metro Div. Two, Nelly Maguire's hat trick for the Lansdowne thirds saw off New York Bravehearts 3-0.

INVINCIBLE CELTS

Herve Diese [two], Cherif Moktefi and Mohamed Ndao scored in Manhattan Celtic's 13th consecutive win in Division Two, a 4-0 capitulation by Central Park Rangers at Icahn Stadium.

The Celts [13-0, 39] are headed back to the top flight.

Youcef Mami [two], Adam Darter, Dan Callow, and Scotsman Barrie Taylor tallied as Celtic's reserves [12-1] avenged their only loss with a 5-3 drubbing of CPR's second unit.

Celtic's Over-30s were also big winners on the day, 5-0 over FC Partizani in the late game at Pier 40.

John O'Hagen struck twice within a minute [19th, 20th] after assisting on K.Z. Punnette's opener [10th], with Simon Nee [31st] also adding a goal to his assist before the interval.

Barry O'Connell [71st] sealed the rout. Mickey Mason and Messaoud Ouechtati also had assists.

O'DRISCOLL CONSOLATION

Barry O'Driscoll [pen.] was the one bright spot in

what boss Dave Sheeran described as "a bad day at the office" for Barnstonworth Old Boys on Randalls Island. They lost 3-1 to BWG Cosmos in Over-30 Div. Two.
