Barnabas hosts Irish education fair

Parents, high-school students and educators from the Bronx and surrounding boroughs are being invited to attend an "Education in Ireland Student Fair" to learn more about education opportunities in Ireland, and why an increasing number of Americans are choosing to study there.

The fair is set for St. Barnabas High School, 425 East 240th Street in the Bronx on Tuesday, Sept. 27 from 7 to 9 p.m.

Education in Ireland is an initiative of the Irish government that highlights the advantages of higher education in Ireland. Last year, according to a statement from organizers, nearly 7,000 U.S. students selected Ireland for their study abroad experience.

"In Ireland, U.S. students pursue undergraduate and graduate degrees from internationally renowned universities at an affordable cost.

"They benefit from a network of international offices with academic, administrative and specialist staff dedicated to fully supporting them throughout their time in Ireland. They also gain from unprecedented access to the extensive European university networks supported by the Erasmus program, the European Union's student exchange program," the statement added.

The Bronx event is free and open to high-school students, parents, principals and other interested parties. Universities represented at the fair include Dublin City University, National University of Ireland Galway, National University of Ireland Maynooth, Trinity College Dublin, University College Cork, University College Dublin and the University of Limerick.
