Journalist and author Tim Pat Coogan, along with Sinn Féin's Gerry Kelly and U.S. Sinn Féin Representative Rita O'Hare, will speak on the "causes and consequences of the Irish Hunger Strikers" on Thursday, May 19 at Rosie O'Grady's in Manhattan.
The event, which comes on the 30th anniversary of the hunger strikes, starts at 6 p.m., is free and all are welcome.
The talk is one of a number of gatherings around the U.S. and Canada to mark the 30th anniversary of the fasts which resulted in the deaths of ten IRA and INLA members.
Former Sinn Féin publicity director and spokesperson for Bobby Sands, Danny Morrison, headlined an event in Canada earlier this week, while Gerry Kelly is slated to speak on Sunday, May 22 at the West Side Irish American Club in Cleveland, Ohio.
