Law & Order Honoree

The seventh of ten children raised by Irish-American parents in Garden City, N.Y., Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice brings experience, passion and dedication to the role of chief law enforcement official for one of the nation's largest and safest counties, and was recently re-elected to her second term to begin in 2010.

Since taking office, Rice has become a nationally-recognized voice in the fight against drunk driving by aggressively prosecuting DWI crash cases and successfully lobbying for tougher laws against the worst DWI offenders.

Rice is looking forward to an even stronger second term by continuing the fight on drunk driving, getting guns off the street, ridding the streets of the growing heroin problem, and maintaining Nassau County as one of the safest places to live and raise a family in the nation.

The family of Rice's father, Laurence J. Rice, is from Co. Monaghan, and the family of her mother, Christine Noel Carroll, is from Co. Mayo.
