Martin Methodist midfielder Emma Reilly, a Dublin freshman, was an All-TranSouth Athletic Conference second team selection. Reilly scored one goal and earned five assists for Martin, which completed a 16-3-2 season. The Red Hawks advanced to the quarterfinals of the NAIA national tournament, where they lost to Lee University, 2-0. Gerry Cleary, the coach of Martin Methodist, was named Coach of the Year in the TranSouth Athletic Conference. Cleary is a Dublin native.
Hofstra's Diane Caldwell, a senior from Balbriggan, Co. Dublin, earned All-Colonial Athletic Association third team honors. Caldwell scored three goals for the Pride this season, including two match winners. She missed a pair of contests while suiting up for Ireland in World Cup qualifiers.
Central Connecticut State women's soccer coach Mick D'Arcy was named Northeast Conference Coach of the Year. The Blue Devils went 9-0-1 in the NEC and 12-7-2 overall. Now in his 10th season at the New Britain, Conn. school, D'Arcy, an Irish native, has earned this honor four times.
Belfast native Philip McNamara earned Coach of the Year honors in the South Atlantic Conference. McNamara guided the Carson-Newman women's soccer team to a 20-3-1 overall mark and the SAC championship. They also advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division 2 tournament, where they were eliminated by West Florida, 2-1.
FIELD HOCKEY
Michigan State's Jamie Deacon, a senior from Newtown, Co. Wexford, was named to the All-Big Ten Conference first team. Deacon finished the season with 11 goals and six assists for the 18-4-0 Spartans. She was also a National Field Hockey Coaches Association First Team All America selection. Deacon finished her career at Michigan State with 35 goals and 25 assists.
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
Rachel Clancy scored 12 points and brought down a team-high nine rebounds as Cal Poly defeated Santa Clara, 63-55, last Tuesday for the first victory over that rival in 29 years. Clancy, a 5-9 junior out of Limerick, shot 5-for-11 from the field, including 1-for-5 from long range, and 1-for-2 from the foul line. The Mustangs are now 6-4.
Orla O'Reilly came off the bench to score seven points and register two assists as Binghamton (2-8) lost to Sacred Heart, 67-59, last Monday. O'Reilly, a sophomore from Cork, nailed three of six field goal attempts, including one of two from downtown in 16 minutes.
