Lauren Caulfield
Where do you live? Buffalo, NY.
Current company and position? Buffalo Public Schools, School Counselor.
First job and what it taught me? My first job was a Library Resource Center and Summer Sports Camp Worker through Buffalo's Mayor Summer Youth Program. It taught me that hard work will get you far, but the way you treat others and the relationships you create along the way is the best way to amplify your hard work!
How do you embrace your Irish heritage? My parents, Tom Caulfield and Nancy Krug, enrolled me at O'Sullivan Irish Dance Academy at age five sparking my passion for my Irish heritage at a young age. After competing for 15 years, I evolved into a teaching assistant at my dance school. In college, I was chosen to participate in the Fr. Mychal Judge Center for Irish Exchange and Understanding Program where I spent a semester learning about Northern Ireland's political, educational, economic, and reconciliation history. The class concluded in an extensive thesis project and 10-day trip to Northern Ireland and Ireland to learn directly from political leaders, community members, artists, and higher education professors that have been involved in the Irish peace process. Currently, I serve as a board member of South Buffalo Roots, a community nonprofit responsible for the South Buffalo Irish Festival, South Buffalo Porchfest, and Music In The Park — all annual and free community events! My favorite part of Irish culture is the quick wit, warm welcome, and joy that is brought to gatherings and daily life, and I try to work that into my interactions with my students, friends and family every day. My Spotify Wrapped always features Irish bands like The Highstool Prophets, The Wolfe Tones, and Crikwater (a local favorite)!
Something people would be surprised to know about me... I attended Taylor Swift’s first ever sold-out show at the Erie County Fair in 2008 and was lucky enough to attend her Eras Tour three times — BIG Swiftie!
