Emily Baron
Where do you live? Amityville, New York.
Current company and position? NYPD Police Officer, Ceremonial Unit.
First job and what it taught me? My first job was at Adventureland amusement park in Farmingdale N.Y. I started this job at 15 years old and it taught me how to be responsible and self-sufficient at a young age. I learned the importance of customer service quickly and how actively listening and being empathetic provides a positive personalized experience for others. I also learned that stepping out of your comfort zone allows you to learn and grow and take on new responsibilities which in return makes you flexible to take on multiple rolls in a company. I was also fortunate enough to make friends from my first job that became family and learned how connections with people you meet along the way are invaluable.
How do you embrace your Irish heritage? I embrace my Irish heritage by being a member of the LAOH, Division 7 for 26 years. I am also an active member of the NYPD emerald society and an Emerald Society Delegate for the 111th Precinct in Bayside, Queens. Every year I proudly march in the New York City St. Patrick’s Day parade with the Emerald Society. Last year my 2014 Jeep Wrangler was decorated and used to participate in the East Islip St. Patrick’s Day parade where I had the privilege to drive my aunt and godmother in the passenger seat as she represented the Hibernians as an aide to the Grand Marshal!
Something people would be surprised to know about me... I always end my prayers by doing the sign of the cross in Gaelic!
