Where do you live? San Francisco, California.
Current company and position? Invest Northern Ireland, VP, Business Development, Foreign Direct Investment.
First job and what it taught me? My first job, as a waitress at the Belfast Castle - a bustling restaurant, bar and wedding venue - was essentially a masterclass in multitasking, quick thinking and making sure everyone had a great time. The fast-paced environment taught me to think on my feet while effective communication with colleagues, customers and the kitchen allowed me to build relationships and create a fun, enjoyable atmosphere - all while balancing three plates and pouring the perfect pint of Guinness.
How do you embrace your Irish heritage? I was raised in Belfast and my Irish culture is a core part of who I am, no matter where life takes me. My deep love for Irish music means I always make time to attend live music or a trad session with my family whenever I am in Belfast. Here in San Francisco, I play Gaelic football with Clann na nGael, and being so far from home friends become family and that's what we have with Clan. There is a strong sense of community within San Francisco GAA and summer weekends spent at matches and BBQs on Treasure Island start to feel like a little piece of Ireland. I also actively participate in Irish events across the city, from the Saint Patrick's Day parade to building relationships with the Irish Network Bay Area and the Irish Pastoral Center. I am lucky that in my professional life I get to stay connect to where I am from helping drive investments that ultimately create jobs and opportunities back home.
Something people would be surprised to know about me... I have lived in 6 US states and visited 23 (and counting).
Biography: Dearbhla O'Neill is the VP of Business Development for Invest Northern Ireland based in San Francisco. Dearbhla was raised in Belfast and now channels her passion for the region, economic growth and international collaboration into driving investment to the region. With a degree in Marketing from Ulster University and a Postgraduate qualification in Global Business, Dearbhla is dedicated to fostering strong relationships to create opportunities that showcase her regions' potential as a hub for innovation. When not exercising or engaging with the local Irish community, Dearbhla enjoys exploring San Francisco's vibrant culinary scene, travelling and visiting National Parks.
