Daniel Cavanaugh

Job Description? I am a Lieutenant with the FDNY.

Why I chose this career? My childhood friend, Brian Shea, said to me and a group of our friends that "One day we are all going to be Firemen." We replied "What?" He again repeated "We are all going to be Firemen. The test is next week so make sure you're free to take it." That following week we all took the exam and as the saying goes...The Rest is History.

Proudest moment of my career? I have had a lot of proud moments throughout my 23 year career but being promoted to Lieutenant takes the cake. I'm given the opportunity to lead some of the best Firemen on the planet, make decisions to benefit the safety of our members and the citizens of New York City.

Something people would be surprised to know about me... I'm an open book so I don't hold many surprises, but if I had to mention something it would be that I hate public speaking despite being a very outgoing and social person.

Biography: I was born and raised in the neighborhood of West Brighton in Staten Island. My Father Michael, a Local 3 Electrician and my Mother Monica, a registered nurse, instilled in me and my sister Erin from an early age to be hard working and caring individuals. Pride for my job and my Country could not be more prominent in my life. I joined the FDNY in January of 2002. I spent the majority of my career in Ladder 27 in the Tremont section of the Bronx where I worked with some of the most senior and experienced Firemen on the job. I gained priceless knowledge and skills from these men that I shall forever be grateful for. I'm currently assigned as a Lieutenant at Ladder 78. I enjoy traveling with my beautiful girlfriend Hanan, trying new restaurants, going to rock concerts, and riding my Harley Davidson motorcycle.
