Online Petition Urging Stack Reinstatement

An online petition has been set up urging the reinstatement of Elizabeth Stack as Executive Director of the American Irish Historical Society.

The link is accompanied by a statement directed at New York State Attorney General Letitia James and James Sheehan, head of the Charities Bureau at the AG's office.

The statement points out that the AIHS "exists to preserve and promote the history and
contributions of Irish Americans. However, recent Board turmoil threatens this vital mission."

And it continues: "We, the undersigned, call on the New York State Attorney General's Office to investigate the leadership of AIHS, take immediate action to ensure its proper governance, and reinstate Dr. Elizabeth Stack as Executive Director."

It also calls for "a thorough review" to determine whether Stack's dismissal on March 18 was justified; the conducting of a formal investigation into AIHS’s governance and financial oversight to ensure leadership is acting in the best interests of the Society.

The statement urges the Attorney general to "use your authority to ensure AIHS leadership upholds its mission to preserve and promote Irish American history rather than serving personal interests."

And it adds: "AIHS is a vital institution for the Irish American community, and we must protect its future. We urge the Attorney General’s office to act swiftly to restore integrity and accountability so that AIHS can continue to fulfill its mission for generations to come."

The petition has been posted by Martin Nutty, co-host of the popular "Irish Stew" podcast.
