"A second teen boy was charged with second-degree murder, felony attempted vehicle theft and unlawful use of a weapon in Jackson County family court on Thursday. Both teens, who have not been named publicly due to their age, were arrested within an hour of the shooting."

Earlier, the Star was reporting that police officers had responded to reports of a shooting at East 63rd Street and Rockhill Road around 5:18 p.m. Wednesday, this according to Sergeant Phil DiMartino, a Kansas City Police Department spokesperson.

Upon arrival, the report stated, officers discovered the victim unresponsive with multiple gunshot wounds,  The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

According to the Star account Brady owned and operated Brady & Fox Restaurant & Lounge with chef and friend Graham Farris.

"The beloved chef was both a father and a prominent figure in Kansas City’s Irish community. He is survived by his wife, Kate, a Wichita native who met Brady while traveling in Ireland."

Brady, the Star report added, had been taking out the trash from one of the adjacent businesses when he encountered several people standing around a parked car, this according to Sergeant DiMartino.

Local media reports have been stating that the men that Brady encountered were trying to steal a car.

The shooting occurred as the interaction between the man and the group of suspects escalated. The shooting was witnessed by several people and was captured on surveillance cameras from nearby businesses. Officers continued to investigate at the scene of the shooting Wednesday night.

"Early Thursday, police confirmed Brady was the victim killed in the shooting. Brady & Fox opened in spring 2022 in east Brookside following more than a decade of culinary collaboration between Brady and Farris, the Star report added.

"The pair previously ran Brady’s Public House, an Irish restaurant on Troost Avenue that closed during the COVID-19 pandemic. The chef grew up in County Tipperary, Ireland, and was one of the youngest graduates from the Dublin Institute of Technology after falling in love with the Dublin restaurant scene.

"Brady worked in kitchens in Europe and Asia before embarking on a culinary career in Chicago. When he relocated to Kansas City to become executive chef at the Ambassador Hotel, Farris became first his apprentice, then his partner.

"Heavily involved in Kansas City’s Irish community, Brady was also a vocal participant in Kansas City’s Irish Fest, bringing live cooking demonstrations to the festival stage."

Reacting to the murder Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas said in part: "Like many in our community, I am heartbroken to learn of the death of Shaun Brady.

"I have met him, laughed with him, heard just a bit of his and his family's story, and was inspired by the business and the community he was building in Kansas City. I grieve for and express my sincerest condolences to his family and all who knew him.

"More distress comes in knowing how he died--due to violence arising once more in our community. For years now, but more acutely in recent months, business owners in Brookside and Waldo, but also along Prospect, in the Crossroads, and throughout too much of our city have expressed serious concerns about a rise in property and nuisance crimes plaguing their stores, their parking lots, and their customers."
