Former All-Star and double All-Ireland winning player, Colm O'Rourke, has stepped away from managing Meath after two years at the helm in the Royal County.
The former corner-forward had initial success with the team when he guided them to Tailteann Cup glory in 2023 during his two years in charge of the Royals.
This put them back into the All Ireland series proper but it was a series of reverses for the Royal County at league and championship level through the season just ended.
The county just about retained its Division 2 status this year but the championship was a real let-down as they suffered three losses from three in the All-Ireland SFC group phase. Arguably the best measure of how much the county's status has fallen was when neighbors Louth beat them by 10 points in the opening game.
A statement released by Meath GAA on Monday said: "Colm O’Rourke has advised Coiste na Mí CLG that he is not seeking re-appointment as Senior Football Manager. Everyone in Meath GAA express their heartfelt thanks to Colm and his management team for their hard work over the past two years.
"During that time, there has been a major change-over in the panel with a large number of players getting their first taste of senior inter-county football. This group will, undoubtedly, form the basis of Meath teams for many years."
