The Irish Olympic team, gold and bronze medal winners included, are landing at Dublin Airport today and will immediately be celebrated at a homecoming rally organised by Dublin City Council in conjunction with the Olympic Federation of Ireland.
This will be the first civic reception for an Irish team on their return from an Olympic Games, the Irish Times reported
The event will be free and ticketless with the public invited to “come along with family and friends and help give our wonderful team the homecoming they deserve."
The Irish Olympians, from north and south of the border, competed for medals like no other in Irish sporting history and in response the Irish government iss expected to significantly increase spending on sports facilities and development.
