Harris, World Leaders, Condemn Trump Assassination Attempt

The attempted assassination of former president Donald Trump at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania Saturday has been condemned by world leaders, including Taoiseach Simon Harris, and by President Biden.

Taoiseach Harris, during an interview with the BBC, described the shooting as "truly shocking."

He said: “Political violence must always be condemned, always be called out. It is quite alarming the rise that we are seeing in political violence across the world. It’s only weeks since my Slovakian counterpart had an attempt on his life as well. it’s so important political violence is condemned.

Harris further described the shooting as an horrific, heinous criminal act.

“We must dial down the rhetoric when it comes to demonising political opponents," he said.

Said President Biden by way of immediate reaction (he would later address the nation): “I have been briefed on the shooting at Donald Trump’s rally in Pennsylvania. I’m grateful to hear that he’s safe and doing well. I’m praying for him and his family and for all those who were at the rally, as we await further information. Jill and I are grateful to the Secret Service for getting him to safety. There’s no place for this kind of violence in America. We must unite as one nation to condemn it.”
