Symphony Space on Manhattan's Upper West Side was packed Thursday evening for a tribute and celebration of the life of Malachy McCourt.
And the audience was told that Malachy's life would soon be remembered with a street sign.
93rd Street and West End Avenue will become "Malachy McCourt Way" in the not too distant future.
The three hour event was comprised of memories and tributes in word and song to Malachy, who died in March at the age of 92.
The masters of ceremonies for the gathering were John McDonagh and Colum McCann while memories and tributes were delivered by a range of Malachy's literary, musical and acting friends including Peter Quinn, Larry Kirwan, Judy Collins and actress Kate Mulgrew.
New York State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli delivered a tribute and Larry Kirwan read a letter to the McCourt family penned by Gerry Adams.
A large screen displayed photos and film from Malachy's life.
The McCourt family turned out in full and in a fitting finale on the stage, led by Malachy's daughter Siobhan, sang a rousing chorus of Malachy's favorite song "Wild Mountain Thyme."
