Pieciak is accused of stabbing McNally multiple times before stabbing himself. He pleaded not guilty when arraigned in hospital. He has been remanded in custody pending a future court appearance.

Queens District Attorney, Melinda Katz, said the brutal nature of the incident was one which had left the community of Queens and Ms. McNally’s home town of Longford in a state of numbed disbelief.

“This is an attack that shocked the community. It was unprovoked and a devastating loss for the family. We are using every resource to make sure there is accountability,” Katz said.

Pieciak, whose address was listed as 76th Street in Glendale, arrived in the Céilí House where Sarah McNally was a bartender. He allegedly stabbed her multiple times before causing injury to himself and fleeing the scene.

Reports state that police found two knives on the floor in the bar.

The Irish Independent was reporting Friday that the funeral for Ms. McNally is to take place this coming Monday in Longford Town. Her funeral Mass will take place at St. Mel’s Cathedral on Monday morning  followed by a private cremation.
