It's Martin and Harris Again

Meets the new bosses. Same as the old bosses.

Fianna Fáil leader Micheál Martin has emerged from the general election as the most likely next Taoiseach, his party having accumulated the single largest share of seats in the next Dáil.

But current Taoiseach Simon Harris and his Fine Gael party, who came in third in the seat count just behind Sinn Féin, will be seeking to return to the top office in Irish government at some point in what would be a repeat of the rotating taoiseach arrangement between the two parties in recent years.

The precise nature and composition of the next government will be negotiated in the coming weeks but for now it is the results from the Friday, November 29 general election that are being digested and analyzed. There will be a full report in the week's print and digital edition of the Echo.
