Sunday Series Spotlights Irish Cultural Gems at Celtic Junction Arts Center

Saint Paul, MN – This fall, Celtic Junction Arts Center is proud to offer audiences the best in contemporary Irish music and film with its Sunday Event Series which kicks off tonight (27 October).

Featuring touring Irish and American musicians, these performances showcase the brightest new talents in the Irish music scene. From the innovative sounds of Trasna and the literary-inspired compositions of Rakish to the transatlantic folk fusion of One for the Foxes, each event brings world-class artistry to an intimate setting. Additionally, audiences will have the exclusive opportunity to watch Verdigris, the award-winning Irish film, in its only Minnesota screening.

Trasna in Concert
Tonight, Sunday, October 27 | 7:00 pm - 9:30 pm | $25.00
Trasna, a folk duo from County Clare and County Limerick, features multi-instrumentalists and vocalists Ger O’Donnell and Trevor Sexton. Their music combines traditional Irish folk with modern flair, creating a fresh and authentic sound. The duo has six top-charting songs in Ireland and has toured extensively across Europe and the U.S.

Rakish, the duo of fiddler Maura Shawn Scanlin and guitarist Conor Hearn, will perform selections from their latest album Now, O Now, featuring musical adaptations of James Joyce’s poetry. The duo blends Celtic and Appalachian traditions, creating a unique and compelling sound that spans old and new influences.

Verdigris is a powerful story of two women—Marian, a middle-aged census enumerator, and Jewel, a strong and independent local teenager—who form an unlikely bond. Filmed in Dublin in 2023, Verdigris has garnered significant critical acclaim, winning Best Independent Film at the Galway Film Fleadh and Best Irish Film at the Newport Beach Film Festival. The film also received top honors at the Kerry International Film Festival and the Irish Film Festival in London.

One for the Foxes in Concert

One for the Foxes brings together Irish and American folk music in a transatlantic trio with members Tadhg Ó Meachair, Dave Curley, and Joanna Hyde. Their performances combine ballads and instrumental traditions from both sides of the Atlantic. The trio has performed internationally, showcasing a blend of traditional melodies and original compositions.

The Celtic Junction Arts Center (CJAC) is a non-profit cultural center and performance venue located at 836 Prior Ave North in the Midway neighborhood of St. Paul. Voted “Best Irish Center/Festival in North America" by Irish Central's Creativity and Arts Awards, this world-class, intimate venue has been hosting traditional and contemporary music concerts and events since 2009 including by (below) traditional music legend Séamus Begley.
