 James Supports Fitzgerald for FDNY Chaplaincy

New York State Attorney General Letitia James is supporting the application of Bronx-based Father Brendan Fitzgerald to become a chaplain to the Fire Department of New New York.

In a letter to FDNY Commissioner, Robert S. Tucker, James expresses her "strong support" for Father Fitzgerald's application to become a chaplain.

She states in her letter: "Father Brendan is a pillar of the New York City Community, serving as pastor of St. Barnabas Church in the Bronx. Since 2016 he has a history of chaplaincy, including to the Hyde Park and Staatsburg Fire Departments where he has proven himself to be an effective educator, counselor, administrator, and public servant.

"In New York City, he has built a solid track record of building trust and community within the FDNY. As Chaplain to the FDNY Emerald Society, FDNY Holy Name Society, and FDNY G.A.A., he has created strong and meaningful connections among members.

"Moreover, his extensive experience in grief and addiction counseling demonstrates his ability to support individuals in crisis. His calm demeanor and compassionate nature have positively impacted the lives of many."

James, in her letter, concludes: "Father Brendan Fitzgerald possesses the experience, compassion and dedication necessary to excel as an FDNY Chaplain. I am confident he would serve with distinction and make a meaningful contribution to the community. Thank you for considering his application."
