Storm Isha Causes Major Disruption

Thousands have been left without power across Ireland and there has been widespread disruption to travel during and in the wake of Storm Isha.

The west bore the brunt of Storm Isha, with many households suffering power outages, travel severely affected and dangerous coastal conditions reported, the Irish Times was reporting.

Over 160 flights in and out of Dublin Airport were cancelled and some flights coming into land turned away for other destinations in the UK and Europe as gusts hit 90 mph at times.

According to the Times report at Dublin Airport, 148 flights were cancelled by 9.30 p.m. Sunday – 75 incoming flights and 73 scheduled departures. High winds resulted in 27 flights performing go-arounds – an aborted landing of an aircraft – while 35 flights bound for Dublin chose to divert to other airports.

At Cork Airport, at least 10 flights were cancelled – four inbound, six outbound – and six scheduled arrivals were diverted.

Aer Lingus and British Airways cancelled flights to and from George Best Belfast City Airport, while flights were also cancelled at City of Derry Airport.
