The wheels of governance are turning again at the American Irish Historical Society.
The society is seeking a new Executive Director.
The chosen individual, according to a release from the AIHS, "will be responsible for the development, execution, and management of the Society’s policies, programs and initiatives.
"The Board is looking for an individual with the skills, experience and passion to preserve, expand, interrogate and communicate the diversity and breadth of the American-Irish experience from its beginnings to today."
The Executive Director, added the release, will report directly to the Board of Trustees and provide "strategic leadership and active support to the staff, Board, and community in the administration and operations of the Society."
Continued the release: "Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to: supervising the overall operations, administration, and management of the Society including on-site storage facility, and digital repository; implementing the Society’s strategic plan, marketing plan, and development plan; advising the Board on all phases of Society operations, activities, and services, including but not limited to the formulation, implementation, and evaluation of Society policies, budgets, programs, and procedures as they affect the Society’s operations, maintenance, programs, fundraising, and services to the general public and stakeholders; establishing and overseeing the care and maintenance of the library, archival, and three-dimensional collections including new acquisitions; hiring, supervising, and evaluating all staff members, consultants, and volunteers as needed; developing a programming and exhibition plan for the Society including educational events for individuals of all ages; developing and maintaining partnerships with other educational and cultural institutions to help achieve the Society’s mission and goals; maintaining close liaisons with the federal, state, and local government officials, as well as representatives of the Irish government.
"This position requires an outstanding leader with exceptional communication skills, excellent fundraising skills, a strong public presence, and enthusiasm for making the case for AIHS to a variety of donors and partners. The position needs a person with a deep knowledge of the American-Irish experience and a sense of how the Society can sustain its mission in an era of limited immigration and changing social relations.
"The Executive Director should be able to articulate a vision for the Society’s future and have the drive to achieve results. In addition, the Executive Director must effectively build relationships across a broad spectrum of personalities. Candidates must have led a similar organization, demonstrated the above skills and had an advanced degree in a relevant field of history.
"Success in this role requires moving the organization ahead while preserving those academic qualities from which the organization has derived its success. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader and motivator committed to fostering a positive and forward thinking environment that will help the Society continue its journey to be a “must visit” site both physically and digitally."
Applicants are invited to send a cover letter, cv, and a list of references to Dr. Terry Golway at tgolway@aihs.org. Applications to be received by Thursday, September 21.
