Where To See Oscar Nominated 'An Cailín Ciúin'

"An Cailín Ciúin" (The Quiet Girl) the first Irish-language film to be nominated for an Oscar in the best international film category is now being released in a number of U.S. theaters.

The film, written and directed by Colm Bairéad, made its its U.S. screen debut in New York and Los Angeles on Friday, February 24, specifically at the Angelika Theater in Greenwich Village in Manhattan, and the AMC Sunset 5 on Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles.

It is scheduled for wider distribution on March 10 when it will feature in Empire 25 theaters in NYC, the Jacob Burns Film Center in Pleasantville, NY, Greenwood Features in Bethel, CT, cinema Arts Center in Huntington, NY, Starr Cinema in Rhinebeck, NY, Clairidge Cinemas 6 in Montclair, NJ, Sag Harbor Cinema Arts Center in Sag Harbor, NY and the Regal Essex 14 in NYC. 

The film, already a multiple award winner, stars Catherine Clinch, Carrie Crowley,  Andrew Bennett, Michael Patric, Kate Nic Chonaonaigh, and Joan Sheehy. The film runs for 95 minutes and is in both Irish and English.

The setting for the film is rural Ireland in 1981. Nine-year-old Cait is sent away from her overcrowded, dysfunctional family to live with foster parents for the summer. Quietly struggling at school and at home, she has learned to hide in plain sight from those around her. She blossoms in their care, but in this house where there are meant to be no secrets, she discovers one painful truth.

The 95th Academy Awards presentations will take place in Los Angeles on Sunday, March 12.
