Former congressman Tom Suozzi wants his old House of Representatives seat back.
The Long Island Democrat, who was active on Irish American issues when a serving House member, recently announced his bid to retake the seat in New York's Third Congressional District.
The district is currently represented by beleaguered Republican George Santos.
Suozzi did not run to retain his seat in 2020 and instead mounted an unsuccessful bid for the New York governorship.
“Today I’m filing a committee to run for Congress in November 2024,” Suozzi said in a statement.
“The madness in Washington, D.C., and the absurdity of George Santos remaining in the United States Congress is obvious to everyone.”
Suozzi, according to a report by the website Politico, said he expects to have a formal campaign kickoff after the local elections on November 7.
