North Firefighters for Gaelic Park Game

Members of the Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service Gaelic Football Club are arriving in New York this weekend for a week long visit that will include a game against the FDNY Gaelic Football Club at Gaelic Park in the Bronx.

The visitors, 45 strong, will be in New York until March 18 and each day will be a busy one. The firefighters will be marching in the Throggs Neck Parade (http://tnsaintpatricksdayparade.blogspot.com/) on Sunday, March 13, visiting the World Trade Center Museum and the FDNY Memorial Wall.

Also included in the itinerary is a visit to the FDNY Training Center on Randall's Island. This will be followed by the Charity Match at Gaelic Park, Tuesday evening March 15 at at 7.30 p.m. between the visitors and the host FDNY. The game will be followed by a reception at Downey's in Riverdale.

Also included in the itinerary is a visit to the Irish Consulate, a dinner and seisuin at Donovan's in Woodside, and attendance at the New York St. Patrick's Day Parade.

The Gaelic Park game will be for the Lt. James Curran Cup. Curran who was the founding member of the NY Firefighters Burn Center Foundation and the money raised will be going to that charity.

This will be the fourth time the teams play each other and NIFRS leads the series with two wins, one draw and one loss. The FDNY won the last match played in Gaelic Park, which was in in 2006. The most recent game was in 2016 in Newry, County Down.
