Anna Bowtell had matters locked down at fourth singles in Houston as Rice defeated Marquette, 7-0, on Friday and Tulane, 4-0, on Sunday. The senior from Delgany, Co. Wicklow defeated Marquette’s Charlotte Russell, 6-2, 6-2 and Tulane’s Giulia Turconi, 6-3, 6-0.
Caragh Courtney was slotted at fourth singles where she knocked off Laura Duhl, 6-2, 6-1, to enable San Francisco to edge Northern Arizona, 4-3, on Thursday.
Ciara O’Toole of Sacred Heart registered victories at second singles to help the Pioneers defeat Providence, 6-1, on Thursday and St. Francis of Brooklyn, 7-0, on Saturday. The junior from Dublin put away Julia Migliorini of Providence, 6-2, 6-3, but needed three sets to dispose of the Terriers’ Angelica Karlsson Hantzis, 6-3, 6-7 (3), 6-3.
The O’Lideadha sisters contributed points to Idaho State’s 6-1 takedown of Eastern Washington in Pocatello, Idaho on Friday. At third singles, Lola put away Scout Mathews, 6-3, 6-3, while on an adjacent court in fourth singles action, Sol took care of Isabella Foshee, 6-2, 6-4. The sisters are sophomores from Dublin.
Ellie Murphy and Olwyn Ryan-Bovey helped power Appalachian State past Lees-McRae, 7-0, in Banner Elk, N.C. last Wednesday. Murphy, a sophomore from Dublin, scored a 6-3, 6-4 victory at third singles over Anita Ivanova, while Ryan-Bovey, a freshman from St. Angelo, Enniskillen, Co. Fermanagh, took care of Nursharneem Shamsuddin, 6-3, 6-1, at the fifth spot. Both also had a hand in 6-1 victories in doubles play.
Jessica Leeman was good for a victory at second singles as Presbyterian defeated Radford, 6-1, in Clinton, S.C. on Saturday. The Belfast senior had little trouble with Melissa Ifidzhen, a 6-2, 6-0 victim.
Breda Brennan joined Brianna Wilbur for a 6-2 victory at third doubles to help Wofford down Fairfield, 6-1, in Spartanburg, S.C. on Tuesday. Brennan is a freshman from Limerick.
MEN’S TENNIS
Dublin senior Oisin Shaffrey contributed to a 7-0 Montana sweep of Eastern Washington on the road Saturday. Shaffrey, playing second singles, downed Wout Doumen, 6-4, 6-3, and joined Milo Benn at first doubles for a 6-4 victory.
Conor Gannon was a bright spot for Tennessee in the Vols’ 4-2 loss to Georgia in Knoxville on Sunday. The freshman from Dublin rallied to defeat Miguel Perez Pena, 1-6, 6-3, 6-3, at sixth singles.
Neil O’Connor held up his end of the bargain at no. 6 for Coastal Carolina in a 4-3 loss to Presbyterian on Friday and a 4-3 win over Texas-Arlington, both in Conway, S.C. The Dublin senior prevailed over Presby’s Teo Cariov, 6-4, 7-6 (7-1) and Arlington’s Ricardo Alban, 6-3, 6-7 (3-7), 6-3.
