The death has taken place of Daniel Aherne, 85, of Queens, New York.
Mr. Aherne, who was a native of County Cork, is immediately survived by his wife of 51 years, Bridget, and their children, Sheila Bluni, John Aherne, Brian Aherne and Mary Lynch.
Brian Aherne worked in the production and design department of the Irish Echo for a number of years and now lives in Cork with his wife and children.
Daniel Aherne is also mourned by his grandchildren, Autumn, Gavin, Tara, Daniel, Saoirse, Brendan, Dylan and James, and his sister, Margaret Aherne.
Viewing will be today, Friday, Aug. 20, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Papavero Funeral Home, 72-27 Grand Ave. in Maspeth.
A funeral Mass will be held tomorrow, Saturday, Aug. 21 at 10 a.m. at Transfiguration Church, 64-25 Perry Ave. in Maspeth.
