Waterford hurler Maurice Shanahan recently scored two goals and 17 points for his club Lismore in their first round championship win over Fourmilewater. There may have been higher scores in club games -- nobody is quiet sure -- but it was some feat as Lismore’s total was 2-22. The record for an intercounty senior hurling game is held by former Wexford great Nickey Rackard, who scored 7-7 in the All-Ireland semifinal win over Antrim back in 1954. The final score in that game at Croke Park, was Wexford 12-17; Antrim 2-3. And to make it a great day for the Shanahan family, Maurice’s 43-year-old brother Dan made a late appearance as a sub, in what was his 28th club campaign for Lismore.
