John Hannon remembered in Yonkers gathering

A luncheon took place on Sunday, January 15 at Rory Dolan's in Yonkers to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the passing FDNY firefighter, John P. Hannon. As a member of the FDNY Disaster Assistance Relief Team, John responded to disasters all around the nation. He was a member of the FDNY Boxing Team and a stalwart member of FDNY Gaelic Football Club of New York.

Every year since his passing, an annual Gaelic football tournament has been held in his memory at Paddy's Field in the Woodlawn section of the Bronx. Fordham Shamrocks Rugby, St. Barnabas GFC, and the FDNY Gaelic football clubs (John was a member of all three) along with the St. Raymond's Gaelic Football Club, who helped initiate the tournament, participate each year.

Money raised from the tournament goes to the FDNY, U.S. military charities and community members in need. John's last act of heroism was the donation of his organs, which gave life and hope to four individuals and their families. Photo by Margaret Purcell.
