Fire before the ice

The Titanic did not sink to the bottom of the Atlantic just because it struck an iceberg. The iconic ship was actually on fire before it plunged to its doom. A new documentary made by Irish journalist Senan Molony contends that a fire in a forward coal bunker – which had broken out before the ship began its ill-fated maiden voyage - so weakened the liner that the iceberg’s work was only a coup de grace. Unlike the Titanic, Molony, who reports for the Irish Daily Mail, recently made it to New York. He was covering the pre-Christmas visit to the city by Taoiseach Enda Kenny.
