Orlaith is in race for top honor

Orlaith Staunton’s work for the foundation named after her son Rory has inspired countless people.

Now she is counting on people to support her in her desire to continue her work.

Orlaith has been selected as one of ten L’Oréal 2016 Women of Worth honorees, chosen from 6,200 nominations.

For Orlaith to become the top National Honoree for 2016 will depend on peoples’ votes.

“As you well know, Rory’s death four years ago changed my life completely. It forced me to take on challenges and fight battles I certainly never wanted to undertake,” Orlaith said in response to her nomination.

“I never imagined that I would become the co-founder of a national advocacy organization, testify before Congress, or appear on national television.

“I also never expected to be honored as a L'Oreal Woman of Worth.

“Women of Worth honors women who have made an extraordinary impact in their communities.

“In choosing me, L’Oréal is identifying sepsis as a serious issue they want to highlight, and for that I am grateful,” she said in reference to the Rory Staunton Foundation and its campaign to raise awareness of sepsis.

The National Honoree is being chosen by way of a public online vote.

“This would mean an unprecedented opportunity to bring sepsis out of the shadows and give it the public platform it so desperately needs. In addition, the Rory Staunton Foundation would receive a grant for $25,000 to help us continue our work,” said Orlaith who lives in New York.

The voting process continues on a daily basis through October 28.

The rules are • Individuals can vote once each day on the L’Oréal website.


  • Share Orlaith’s voting information on Facebook and Twitter pages

  • Tell family and friends about L’Oréal Women of Worth news and ask them to share Orlaith’s post and vote.

  • Members of a community group, medical association, union, company or other network, can post Orlaith’s link on their social media platforms and circulate via list-serves.


“Four years ago I buried my young son Rory and vowed then that I would take an awareness campaign about sepsis worldwide,” said Orlaith.

“I am determined to shine a light on the silent killer sepsis, which claims over 258,000 Americans each year and is the biggest killer of children worldwide. Please join with me and vote today and every day through October 28th.”
