The Bhoys have been in grand form in the D'Arpino Cup. They defeated Metro Div. One side Nieuw Amsterdam 2-0 and Cosmopolitan Soccer League [CSL] champs' Pancyprian Freedoms' reserve side 6-2 to reach the Round of 16.

O'DRISCOLL WINNER

Barry O'Driscoll, Barnstonworth Old Boys' talisman, shot Dave Sheeran's battling Over-30s into the semi-finals of the revived Saunders Cup with the winner in a 2-1 decision over rivals Central Park Rangers Old Boys at Forest Hills High School. Andrew Compagno opened the scoring for Barnstonworth in the first half and then saw his side gift CPR the leveler after a defensive lapse.

"We let CPR back into the game and they fought hard to go ahead especially early in the second half," said Sheeran. "But then who else but Barry O'Driscoll scored a fine breakaway goal to seal the win. Not the prettiest performance, but we dug in and did enough."

O'Driscoll's strike brought his spring tally to eight in four games, including two hat tricks. One of those came in a 4-1 rout of CPR Grays in the previous round of the Saunders Cup, March 13. The tournament began with 16 teams in contention.

FIVE-STAR CELTS

In a league tussle on Randalls Island, Manhattan Celtic's Over-30s thrashed BWG Cosmos 5-0.

It was 3-0 at the interval courtesy of Mickey Mason [10th], K.Z. Punnette [25th] and Leeben McGregor [30th], who had assisted on Punnette's goal before Ian Woodcock himself set him up. On resumption, Punnette [63rd] and Michael DiNuzzo [75th], the latter from a Barry O'Connell ball, finished off Cosmos.
