Man dies from freak fall

A Derry man died after a "freak" fall outside his home on the Channel Islands.

Michael Stewart, 30, who was originally from the Brandywell area of the city, suffered fatal injuries after he fell from a window at his flat on Sunday morning.

Police in Jersey have said they are not treating the death as suspicious. His brother Ryan Stewart described it as a freak accident.

"He had been out with his friends the night before and he had got locked out of the flat," he said.

"He would have been there five years this month, so he was settled.

"He had a partner in Jersey and he had big plans on getting married and settling down and all the rest. He had his whole life ahead of him, it is over, ended in seconds."
