Maguire, 16, wins title in Britain

LEONA MAGUIRE again demonstrated her tremendous potential by winning the Women's British Open Strokeplay title at the Royal Ashdown Forest club in East Sussex.

The 16-year-old girl from the Slieve Russell club in County Cavan was two strokes off the pace at halfway. But she put together two rounds of 69 to stun her older rivals and win by six shots ahead of Belgium's Laurence Herman.

"I played really well and everything seemed to go right." she commented. It continues a fine season for Leona whose twin sister Lisa failed to make the halfway cut.
