Funerals take place of Turkey murder victims

The funerals have taken place of the two Irish women murdered while on holiday in Turkey last week.

On Saturday Marion Graham was buried in Newry, while Cathy Dinsmore's funeral took place in Warrenpoint. The County Down friends were stabbed near the west coast city of Izmir.

Recep Cetin, the Turkish boyfriend of Ms. Graham's daughter, has reportedly confessed to killing both women.

In his homily, Father John Byrne said Ms. Graham was a "loving mother and great friend" who was "young and had much more to give in life".

"By all accounts she was a great person for walking and regularly she would be seen out walking on the Warrenpoint Road stopping to talk to those whom she knew," he said.

"Her humor and personable nature meant she had a wide circle of friendsand she could chat to young and old with little difficulty.

"She is remembered too for the time she gave to child minding, helping out neighbors and friends."

Canon John Kearney, who officiated at Dinsmore's funeral Mass, said words were inadequate to temper the grief of the families.

"We do not want to believe or accept that a person who was known so welland loved so much is now dead," he said in his homily.

"In a sense we are paralyzed. We are suspended in disbelief.

"Today, there is a huge emptiness in our hearts because Cathy has been taken away from us in this way.

"It is no wonder that we are devastated at this time, our grief is enormous. What are we to do, how are we to cope?"

The women's bodies were flown back to Dublin Airport last Wednesday, before being taken in hearses to Newry and Warrenpoint.
