IRISH tennis was provided with a major boost when the national team came from 2-1 down to beat Tunisia 3-2 in the Davis Cup tie at the Riverview club in Dublin. Conor Niland and Barry King were the heroes. Niland, having come so close to getting through to face Roger Federer in the second round at Wimbledon, won both of his singles matches. Ireland had looked in real trouble when they lost the doubles to go 2-1 behind. But Niland soon leveled matters by beating Tunisian number one Malek Jaziri 7-5, 7-5, 6-1. It was now up to King and he came good against Anis Ghorbel, winning 7-6, 6-2, 6-2 for a victory which saves Ireland from relegation from Group Three of the Europe-Asia zone.
