Molloy event will focus on '81 hunger strikes

The Molloy College Irish Studies Institute is this weekend hosting a discussion focusing on the 30th anniversary of the "Great Irish Hunger Strike." the discussion will take place on Sunday, June 12 in conjunction with attorneys Martin Galvin, Brian O'Keefe, president, Nassau County Brehon Law Society. The event will take place at 3 p.m. in the Multipurpose Room, Wilbur Arts Center, Molloy College, Rockville Centre, Long Island.

Galvin will talk about the cause and effect of the hunger strike in 1981 that took the lives of 10 ten hunger strikers including bobby Sands.

According to a release from Molloy, the lecture will focus on the hunger strikers, the issues in Ireland at the time, and the effect that the hunger strikes had on the United States. A question and answer session will be moderated by Mr. O'Keefe.

The Irish Studies Institute works to illuminate and document the central role Irish Americans have played, and continue to play, in the United States, and also to extend and enrich exchanges between Irish Americans and those from other cultural backgrounds.
