Will Galvin was born and raised in Listowel, Co Kerry. Educated at Trinity College and the King's Inns, he first worked as a journalist, mainly with the Independent Group in Dublin. He then spent two years working in emergency coordination in Africa with the Irish aid agency, GOAL. Returning to Dublin, he practiced as a barrister, specializing in criminal law and judicial review from 2000 to 2009, while also retaining a number of advisory and board roles for charities working in the developing world. Last year, he took up a new position with Self Help Africa, as it established in the United States. The agency has empowered rural communities in Africa to become food secure for the last 25 years, concentrating on farming and micro-credit schemes. In January 2010, he became the first chairman of the newly-established Irish Network DC.
