Hi and bye

What hope do we draw from coming March, the month of shamrock and St. Patrick, those Ides so fatal to Gaius Julius Caesar, the return of daylight savings and official spring?

Well, the hope that comes with every spring. But though we are in the habit of mostly looking ahead, we should always take a moment to consider where we are, and where we have just been.

And that is the month that the ancient Celts decided was the dawn of their spring, a span of days that, while a little shorter than the other months, promised longer and more fruitful days to come.

So a salute to February. As always, we were only getting used to you, and then you were gone.
