Budget Travel, Ireland's largest tour operator, is but the latest casualty and has been closed down after a provisional liquidator was appointed by the Irish High Court.
The company's recent winding up comes with the loss of 172 jobs and the closure of 17 retail outlets. The company was established in 1975 and at the time of liquidation enjoyed a 30 percent share of the Irish travel trade market.
People who booked vacations with Budget were advised to rearrange their plans with other travel agents.
