Captain Joe Downing is a 25-year member of the NYPD who started his career in January 1985 with the NYC Transit Police. He is currently the Commanding Officer of the Manhattan South Vice Enforcement Squad.
Throughout his career, Downing has worked in many precincts and units throughout the city. He was born and raised in Woodside, Queens by parents who hail from County Kerry. He is one of seven children. Downing attended St. John's University earning a Bachelor of Science Degree and a Masters Degree from Seton Hall University. He resides in Orangeburg, N.Y., with his wife Linda, a retired NYPD Detective, and their children Christopher, Joseph, and Lauren.
