J.P. Delaney, the senior litigating attorney at O'Dwyer & Bernstien LLP, grew up in the Bainbridge and Woodlawn sections of The Bronx. While attending the University of Richmond and Brooklyn Law School, he worked as a bartender and waiter at Harbour Lights Restaurant and Ashton's in Manhattan. At this time, he also started his legal career as a law clerk at O'Dwyer & Bernstien, where he learned from the late Paul O'Dwyer and Frank Durkan, as well as from Brian O'Dwyer. Delaney continues to work as a litigator at O'Dwyer & Bernstien to date.
In addition to his law practice, Delaney is also a partner in various bar/restaurants in Manhattan, (Harbour Lights, The Full Shilling and River), Yonkers (JJ Mannion's) and in Dublin (Peader Kearney's).
On Sept. 15, 2001, Delaney married the former Melissa Clare. The couple has two daughters, Saoirse and Rory. The family resides in Manhattan. Delaney serves on the board of the Emerald Isle Immigration Center, the Aisling Irish Community Center, and the associate boards of the Irish Repertory Theatre and Musicians On Call. He also serves as an officer of the Emerald Association of Long Island, and has been a longtime member of the Brehon Law Society.
