Assistant Chief Michael Collins served over 27 years in the New York Police Department in a challenging variety of assignments. From 2002 through his retirement at the end of 2009 he commanded the NYPD's press office, the Office of the Deputy Commissioner - Public Information.
His mother Philomena (Brody) is from Currakyle in East Clare, his father, the late James Collins was from Lisheen, Carrigaholt, in West Clare. Collins's wife Maureen (Brennan) is an NYPD Detective who was raised in County Roscommon. He has two sons attending local colleges, Michael (Columbia) and James (Cooper Union).
